The story

Where the music comes from.

01 · The house

The house was always full of music.

My dad was obsessed with it. I grew up on Motown, soul, jazz and R&B. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Donny Hathaway, that whole world.

02 · Garage

Garage was the one I really fell into.

UK garage in the late 90s, just as I was hitting my teens. Craig David, Artful Dodger, MJ Cole, Wookie. By the time I was DJing seriously, that was the sound I wanted to make.

03 · Texas

Texas is in here properly.

I moved over a few years ago and ended up loving the place. The people have been good to us. And the writers down here treat the heart of a song like it's the actual point. It's changed the way I write.

04 · The songs

I write the songs. I decide what stays.

The tools change every decade. I just happen to be using the current ones.

05 · The album

All of It Was Ours.

Seventeen songs about old friends, family, love that lasts and the open road. Garage sits at the centre, and the heart of the song is the point.
